New Minecraft Spinoff Game "Minecraft Legends" Announced

As the Xbox Bethesda Game Showcase draws to a close, Minecraft fans have some exciting news to look forward to thanks to the announcement of a new spinoff game called Minecraft Legends. During the event, Microsoft revealed a cinematic trailer showing off some of the story and gameplay elements of the game.

Minecraft Legends' plot looks to revolve around the invasion and corruption of the Overworld by denizens of the Nether known as Piglins. The game is described as an "action strategy game" and the gameplay looks exciting and varied as the player recruits various Overworld mobs to collect resources, build fortifications and battle the Piglins in their forts. Some of the mobs shown in the trailer and on the game's website are recognisable faces in Minecraft like zombies, slimes and villagers. However, some new mobs were shown off such as a glowing, flying mob that seems to perform the mining and building and comes in multiple colours, miniature rock golems that fight alongside the player in melee combat and sentient arrow boxes which fire projectiles during combat.

This will be the third Minecraft spinoff game released after Telltale Games' "Minecraft Story Mode" in 2015 and "Minecraft Dungeons" following it up in 2020. Both games received mixed to positive reviews and were commercial successes. Minecraft has even started branching out and finding its way into other games with the inclusion of the player characters Steve and Alex as playable fighters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, along with alternate costumes for the zombie and enderman.

After over a decade at the top Minecraft shows no signs of slowing down, and there is lots to look forward to as a fan of the game and all its related media. Minecraft Legends is planned for release in 2023 and will be available via Xbox Game Pass on Console, Cloud and PC from Day 1.
